I’ve seriously been about walking lately. For so many reasons:
- It’s a nice way to move and relax at the same time.
- It’s a great way to spend time outside.
- It’s the perfect amount of time to listen to a podcast or two or an ebook or a Bible passage.
- It’s easier on the joints than running but just as good for you!
But really, there are so many benefits to walking! I mean, just think about the French! They eat for enjoyment and they are still healthy because they walk everywhere!
So what are some of the health benefits of walking?
- It reduces stress
- It’s good for long-term memory
- It aids in fat loss
- It strengthens bones and muscles
- It helps lower and regulate blood pressure
I go through phases of cardio – sometimes I enjoy running more and sometimes I enjoy walking more. I think the point is to do what you enjoy and not to just go for a five mile run because you feel like you should…you don’t want to over extend yourself and burn out. And I’m not saying that you should never challenge yourself, but listen to your body and do what you know your body needs/wants/or is craving or honestly what you know you’ll enjoy more. If you aren’t up for an intense cardio sesh then just get outside and move your body by going for a nice walk! Your mind and your body will thank you for it!
I LOVE walking and using my walks as a sort of meditation / reflection time. It’s always so peaceful! Are there any podcasts / books you like to listen to while you cardio? Share them below! I found a new one that I’m loving lately called The Happy Hour by Jamie Ivey! Some of you in the Austin area may know her husband Aaron Ivey who is a worship leader and pastor at The Austin Stone. They have four kids, 3 of who they adopted and Jamie connects with other women on her podcast that share their Christian faith! It’s really great so I suggest checking it out!
P.S. I’ve never been one to spend a million dollars on workout clothes and I’m loving Champion stuff lately because it’s generally more affordable, I mean I can buy two or three pairs of their tennis shoes for the price of one of the brands that I usually buy. See some of the Champion things I own below (linked)!
