Wear Your Love Story with James Avery
I've always loved the simple and classic feel of James Avery. I grew up collecting charms with my mom, being gifted jewelry that symbolized my faith as I hit certain milestones (like being confirmed), and I also bought Sam's wedding band from James Avery - so I couldn't be more happy to share mine and Sam's love story and the James Avery Pieces that symbolize it.
Sam and I met in 2008 in my sophomore year of college after I transferred schools and Hurricane Ike had hit Galveston Island two weeks after I'd arrived! We were all transferred to a different town to finish our semester and that's how I met Sam at the Texas A&M Rec Center. He tells me that the day we met he thought I could possibly be his wife one day and that he'd never thought that before! Which was sweet but we didn't actually hang out or see each other again until my best guy friend became his roommate once we were back on the Island.
When Sam and I became good friends, almost two full years after meeting, we quickly realized that we shared the same faith, morals, values and really enjoyed each other's company! We lived two houses away from one another, which quickly lead to us hanging out all of the time and realizing that we had fun doing everything together - whether it was watching a movie, talking on my front porch or going on a random adventure - we had a great companionship!
It wasn't long after we finally started dating in 2011 that I decided to transfer schools again! So Sam decided to go out on a limb and move to a new city to be closer to me even though we had JUST started dating.
He would drive an hour from Belton to Austin and visit me almost EVERY DAY for a year, it was really sweet! He eventually found an apartment in Austin (literally a God-send), and then asked me to marry him 2 years later.
But those three years were not easy breezy! I had a lot to work through personally and we were finding the middle ground of our faith together, after coming from Catholic and Baptist backgrounds. If this was a book this part could hold several chapters, but we eventually figured it out for ourselves!
Throughout our relationship we've continued our adventures together and separately - traveling to Costa Rica, The Dominican Republic, Mexico, Africa (my first mission trip), The West Coast, the dessert of Nevada to protect desert tortoises (Sam), Oklahoma both separately to aid in Moore's Tornado disaster relief (while Sam was there another Tornado touched down and he had to take cover!!! Leading me to panic and prayer LOL), and a good number of the other states! We love traveling together but we've learned how to make distance work too especially because we both travel frequently.
Fast forward almost four years into marriage and we're continually learning and growing, loving life with our two pups in Austin, TX and continuing to chase our dreams together.
This is sort of the cliff notes/ to be continued version of our story! BUT I knew when I saw the compass at James Avery that it reminded me of our love story in so many ways...but also one really BIG way.
A favorite Proverb of mine is: "The mind of a man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps."
The Point the Way compass charm reminds me that God guided us to each other and there is so much that I can look back on and literally see that he directed. SO MUCH, down to the tiniest details. And the Script Initial W Ring reminds me that I'm Amanda Waltman now (but I also just thought it was super pretty)! HAHA because it took about a year to get used to my new last name.
I'm beyond thankful to have someone that dreams and plans with me and changes direction with me and trusts that God is with us through it all. It's been a huge blessing to adventure through life with Sam - to have his support, encouragement and love daily, to be the same for him, and to know that wherever we go and whatever we do, we aren't alone.
