Our Proposal Story
Happy happy Friday!!
I'm so excited that it's the weekend because Sam gets a break, and this weekend we're going to watch one of our friends from college, and actually an old roommate of mine (yes, I lived with two guy friends and it wasn't weird) race in the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix Of Texas! It's awesome to see him doing something he dreamed about doing for years... #inspiring!!!
Anyway speaking of college, that's where Sam and I met, which I've shared before on some other posts. But last week I got to partner with Jeweler's Mutual over on Instagram to share our proposal story and thought I would share it over on the blog as well.
We had been dating around 3 or 3 1/2 years when Sam popped the question, and for whatever reason I did not see it coming AT ALL. Because if I had I would have definitely been wearing something cuter and had my nails done or something!
By the time we got engaged I knew that Sam and I were going to get married eventually, but it's just funny that I hadn't thought about the actual moment of the proposal and all. I didn't have any expectations of how I wanted the moment to be, or when I wanted it to happen (which was not the case whatsoever with wedding planning but that is an entirely different story that is definitely whole post worthy)...and it was really nice because I was COMPLETELY surprised and swept up in the moment, however baffling and funny it was, instead of contemplating every move.
Sam did a really great job of picking out the ring himself. I'd shown him a few cuts and styles once really casually on Pinterest but I really wanted it to be something that he had a big part in choosing!
Anyway, onto the story!
It was around Christmas a little over four years ago and we were going to see a Christmas lights display with his family...he'd wanted my family to come too but they were collectively afraid that my family being there would give it away - our parents hadn't met at that point, if I recall correctly, so it really would've seemed fishy!
Sam was acting so strange that day! I just wanted him to walk beside me and hold my hand and enjoy all of the lights but he kept running around like he was looking for something he’d lost, which I later found out was him trying to scope out the perfect little spot for the proposal to happen.
So the night goes on... we were at Camp Tejas and it's a camp ground where they have lights, food, a light show, etc. so it's a whole afternoon/evening event and we'd literally been there for four hours probably before he decided it was time.
Everyone but me knew it was happening that day and I guess they expected it to happen earlier because Sam later told me that they thought he had asked earlier in the evening and I'd said no!! Hahaha. It's just that once he’d found the spot he couldn’t figure out how to naturally get over to it alone, so he tried a couple different times and I guess his family had their eye on us anytime we were together!
Finally, Sam decided we should go for a walk and for fear of giving it all away by simply saying, “Hey I want to show you something over here,” he came up to me very seriously and said, “Hey can we talk?” So we started walking to THE spot in a serious silence and my mind was all over the place because he was being so serious! I really thought he was about to break up with me!!! I mean who says "Can we talk?" followed by good news?! It's usually something serious and not easy to talk about lol.
Anyway, we finally got to THE spot and we stood there for a second waiting for people to pass by and right before I was about to come unglued, he dropped down on one knee and said the sweetest things that I wish I had on a recording somewhere because it all got so fuzzy after the excitement of the moment. I teared up, then Sam pulled out the GORGEOUS ring he’d picked out himself, and I said YES obviously!
I think back to that moment and still crack up about the whole thing. It was so sweet and so humorous!
Anyway I LOVE hearing people's proposal stories so I would LOVE if you shared your below in the comments!
