I've got my coffee nearby and I'm ready to share my morning routine with you guys! I so badly want to be a morning person because when I do manage to get up early I really love and enjoy the quiet morning hours before it's light out and people are racing off to work. It's so peaceful and it feels as though all of this extra time is added to the day! However, it's HARD to get in that habit because that requires me getting to bed on time and I'm a huge night owl, especially when Sam is gone for work - I'll have Parenthood on in the background and my computer in my lap and I'll do things like blog or completely re-do my website until 2am. So I actually normally get up around 7am and I FOR SURE subscribe to the no talky before coffee thing...need.coffee.to.function. But anyway, here's a typical morning routine in my life.
My Daily Morning Routine:
My alarm goes off and I slowly make my way out of bed. I've been trying really hard to not look at my phone first thing, because I'm looking at it ALL day for EVERYTHING. I used to wake up and check emails & social first thing in the morning...but it wasn't really the tone I wanted to set for my day, so now I try and do my whole routine now before checking anything, unless there is something scheduled that I know I need to prep for.
I go downstairs and let the dogs out on the patio to enjoy the morning while I make a pot of coffee! PRIORITIES. Then while the coffee is brewing I let the dogs out to the bathroom one and a time (so they remain calm! & they don't run off together since our yard is not yet fenced) and then give them their Farmer's Dog Food (which I can definitely share a post on if anyone is interested! Nugget is the pickiest eater but he loves his real food dog food, which you can see if you hop over to my Instagram stories today).
I make breakfast, I've been really loving Acai bowls lately. Trader Joes has easy individual frozen Acai packets that you can add into your smoothie or bowl. And then I've been drinking a juice with my breakfast every morning as well!
My Acai Bowl
- Add 8oz almond milk, 1 acai packet, 1 or 2 packets of stevia, and I sometimes add a scoop of vanilla protein to a blender with a few ice cubes. I was taking a medicine that limits my potassium intake, but now that I'm off of it I'll probably switch off between adding protein and adding banana to help the consistency! Or add both!
- Add the mixture to a bowl and top with granola - I really love Nature's Path Organic Love Crunch Granola Dark Chocolate Macaroon.
- Top with fruit! Strawberries, blueberries, peaches and bananas are my favorite to top my Acai bowl with!
I usually eat my breakfast outside on the back patio with the pups, drink my coffee and do a little quiet time. I'm in the market for a new devotional...kind of over the whole Jesus Calling devotional because it feels like a fortune cookie or something. Is that wrong to say? I'm sure its just a preference thing but I'm looking for a deeper Christian devotional - any recommendations??? Please let me know if you have any!
I either make my own with my 3 year old juicer that I bought on sale at Macy's! I love to do beets, carrots, cucumber, ginger, lemon, pineapple, and grapefruit. OR like this week, I'm drinking juice from Squeezed Online who I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE. They're a Texas based company that delivers fresh juice straight to your door (and they DO deliver outside of TX as well). I've blogged about them in the past when I did a 3day and 7 day cleanse. But sometimes I just order a batch that I can drink in addition to a normal diet (especially because MY SKIN NEEDS IT). You can check them out and use my code: brilliantbalance for 15% off any order 🙂
Right after I eat I take my Silver Fern Brand Probiotics. I've shared my love for this company quite a bit, so I'm sorry if it's getting old - but guys, these probiotoics are THE BIGGEST PART of my daily routine. I mean, besides like connecting with Jesus haha (but actually I could work more on this). I hate to go without this supplement because I've said it before but I'll say it again -THEY MAKE THE BIGGEST FREAKIN DIFFERENCE. They completely fight off my belly bloat, and they definitely boost my metabolism. I was off of these for two weeks and I can honestly say there was a 180 difference. I thought I could go without them, but I really can't and I never want to.
Personal Hygiene Care
I then wash my face and brush my teeth! Some mornings I actually brush my teeth before anything else, but typically I'll do it whenever I wash my face.
Lately I've been using skincare by Trufora - their Trufora Ultimate Facial Cleanser and the Trufora Intensive Night Treatment. They are an Austin based company and their skincare line is free of all the BS:
- Pharmaceutical grade
- Gluten free*
- Sustainably harvested
- Suitable for all skin types
It's very soothing on my easily irritated skin! If I'm looking to use a high-end yet affordable skincare option, I really love using Trufora, especially because they're local. If I'm using a drug store brand I really love Cetaphil - it was also recommended to me by an esthetician when I asked for her honest recommendation of an affordable drug-store skincare system I should use: Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser & Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15
Anyone else like me and hadn't been to the dentist in over 10 years?! Well, I visited for the first time in 10 years, 6 months ago, and walked away knowing that I needed a root canal, and 8 cavities filled! AND that's when I switched up my teeth care - I've always been regimented about brushing my teeth, sometimes I brush my teeth 3 or 4 times a day (which is probably too much - actually it definitely is because I found out from my neighbor who is a dental hygienist, that I've been brushing my teeth too hard and it's caused my gums to pull away from my teeth on one side of my mouth). I've also been the worst at flossing and have forced myself to get better about it.
Make the Bed & Work!
By 8:45 A.M. I am usually in front of my computer, checking emails, preparing for calls that I have scheduled that day and orienting myself with things that need to get done that day! But I usually make my bed first because it makes my environment and me feel a little more put together! I'm also a BIG list and calendar person. I love this giant TO-DO notepad that I found at Target. I keep it on my desk where I can list everything out and cross things off throughout the day. And I use this big dry erase calendar (U Brands Magnetic Monthly Calendar Dry Erase Board, 20 x 16 Inches, Silver Aluminum Frame) that I keep updated day to day and week to week! Helps me stay organized and on-task 🙂
And that's it! Gotta keep working 🙂
