I’m so happy that it’s the weekend and that Sam is home. It’s a crazy time for our little family, and consequently my parents who have so kindly taken us in. I’ll explain.
We decided to start renting our condo, our home – the one and only we have – on AIR BNB. Air bnb if you haven’t heard of it is a travel site where people can list rentals for travelers to stay while on vacation or work trips, and for whatever extended period of time the renter offers and the guest needs; whether a couple of nights, a weekend, a week or an extended stay, you can find it all on air bnb. There are filters when searching within a destination that can help you find exactly what you are looking for. The yellow house that we stayed at in Galveston (pictured in my Galveston post and below) was an Air BnB rental and we had a great first experience with it.
Anyway, it’s a great way to make a little extra income if you are located in a place people like to visit! Our condo is nestled up on an arm of Lake Travis and is relatively close to downtown Austin, and close to the wedding venues, breweries, vineyards and parks of the hill country…so we decided to give it a try and hope for some bookings!Well within the first day of having our place posted we actually got a booking and had to turn it down because they wanted to stay there that very weekend!! Our place wasn’t quite ready at that time. And getting it ready was no joke…
Sam has been working so hard to get our floors ready. He’s pulled up carpet, arduously pulled out tile and has put in vinyl planking! Not to mention any maintenance that needs to be done…fixing the AC, fixing doors and lights. While I have been trying to clean like I’ve never cleaned before to make the place look nice and inviting. Seriously, this Air BnB thing is going to be great for getting in the habit of keeping our place pristine…it’s never been this clean. Oh and also, it’s meant having to get rid of all our junk! Because ideally the place needs to feel like a hotel or vacation rental and be essentially empty for them to be able to use it how they need. This means not having excess stuff (which is actually kind of what we needed to get rid of our crapola) and being able to have our bags easily packed and taken away for the weekend…!
We have our first visitors staying this weekend so I’m really anxious to get their feedback since we worked so hard at getting it ready for them!! And I hope they are super honest so we can make improvements. It’s actually kind of fun!!! So in the mean time my parents have been generous enough to let us stay with them while we have renters. This means though that we have five dogs in one house! Which is insanity, especially because they don’t have a fence around their backyard… My parents have two dogs, and Sam and I normally only have our two but on his work trip this past week Sam rescued a baby blue heeler from the side of the road!
Little Nugget had a completely cleanly broken leg when Sam found him, so the vet fixed him up with a splint, stitched him up, spayed him and gave him all of his shots all at once. Poor little guy!! He’s been through a lot. And we took on the job of fostering this little guy until he gets adopted through Texas Cattle Dog Rescue! His recovery time is 6 weeks (in which a feisty little PUPPY is supposed to stay relatively calm and still)…and with Sam traveling and Kona’s heart wearing down and having to keep him on schedule with 5 different medicines and having a 10month old puppy, and moving in and out of our house with Air BnB at the same time, it’s going to be an interesting 6 weeks to say the least! But we are up to the challenge!!!
Here we goooo!
Sincerely, Amanda <3
