Sam and I were in Vegas last week! For those of you who may be new to the blog, Sam works out in Vegas from time to time as a desert tortoise biologist and I'm able to go with him because I manage vacation rental properties and have a flexible schedule (as of right now). So this wasn't a planned Vegas vacation-type trip, it was a spur of the moment work trip for Sam and I tagged along!
Sam normally stays off of the strip at The Aliante, and we usually go hiking or do more outdoorsy things but this time around we stayed at The Linq right in the middle of the strip and I was able to explore downtown a little bit more, so I'll be sharing all of that with you in this post!
I've been to Vegas a handful of times and when I'm going with Sam it tends to be a more low-key experience because we are old people (but actually we're really not), we don't gamble really, and after two or three drinks I'm usually ready to be in pajamas and in bed! So the most exciting thing for me (since Celine Dion and Britney weren't performing and I didn't have girlfriends to go out and dance with) was exploring food and drinks!
Here's a look at my favorite finds this trip:
Sam and I flew out of Austin on the earliest flight & when we got to Vegas our room wasn't ready, Sam had to head out to the desert for work and I needed something to fill my morning - so I hopped on a Lyft and headed to Makers & Finders, a "Latin cafe coffee bar in the Arts Disctrict of Downtown Las Vegas." I spent a few hours cozied up on a couch, drinking a Lavender Latte (with house made Lavender syrup) and doing some work, it was really quaint. They also offer bar seating, community table seating and normal cafe seating!
Barista Recommended: Lavender Infused Latte & Mexican Spice Latte
Try Something Different: Coconut Turmeric Latte
Order Food - Check out their menu here.
The outside of the hotel definitely looks older but it's been renovated and has a very modern/hip updated interior. It's also a VERY central location on the strip which was one of my most favorite things about it. In either direction, everything was only a short walk away!
Other things that set The Linq apart:
The Linq High Roller : 550ft tall observation wheel that takes 30 minutes to complete one full rotation. During the day a regular adult ticket is only $22 through their website. And a happy hour day pass with an open bar is only $35.
The Linq Promenade
Right outside of the Linq you'll find shopping, dining, and things to do in the Linq Promenade. Below are a few of the things we enjoyed!
Sam and I shamelessly ate JABURRITO every single day for lunch. It wasn't even necessarily the cheapest thing in the promenade, we just love sushi and we loved their bowls - granted by the last day we had had our fill of them, but they were definitely really good!
Favorite's: Rockport, Redondo & Long Beach
Amorino is an Italian Gelateria made using all natural and organic products! It's super delish and they even shape your cone into a rose & you can choose as many flavors as you want per one standard price based on small, medium or large!
Favorite Flavors: I LOVED the hazelnut because it tasted EXACTLY like Nutella. That and the tiramisu were my favorites!
Off The Strip is an Italian Restaurant in the promenade - Sam and I ate here for dinner one night since it was literally downstairs. We split a lot of meals to save money and what we split here was definitely enough to fill us both, especially since we each had two glasses of wine with dinner! Off The Strip has a special YELP Promo where you can check in and get a buy 1 get 1 drink!
We ordered: Baked Dry-Rub Chicken Wings (SO good!) & Blue Cheese Burger
Don't forget to check-in on Yelp for a buy-1-get-1 drink!
The Venetian was only a couple of hotels away and we ended up enjoying a few things that it had to offer during our time on the strip. Loved the vibes at the Venetian and there were SO many good restaurants and bars and lounges to choose from. I'd love to stay there some time around in Vegas, maybe on a girl's trip???
Carlo's Bakery is brought to us by CAKE BOSS! It was filled with so many delicious looking confections. I had already eaten a huge chocolate muffin for breakfast when I made it over to the bakery at 10am, so I went with a Hazelnut Creme Puff - you can't go wrong with hazelnut! The cakes, lobster tail and cannoli's looked awesome, as did everything!
Carlo's most popular pastry: The Lobster Tail
The Dorsey is a very well designed and refined cocktail lounge within The Venetian. It's very cozy and has some really delicious drinks! Sam and I came here one evening before dinner intending to only grab one drink, but four drinks and two and a half hours later we still didn't want to leave. This place is great for conversation and lingering a while.
Absolute favorite drink & one of The Dorsey's most popular: the Penicillin (Scotch, fresh lemon, ginger, honey & Islay float)
Sam and I ate at Yardbird the day of our flight out of Vegas. We wanted to eat there after The Dorsey the night before but they were running a private event! Sam had eaten at Yardbird once in Miami and was raving about it so I had to try it for myself before we left town. Again, we split food to save money but this is probably a place you definitely want to order your own meal because it was as delicious as Sam made it out to be! And the interior is so cute so you'll definitely want to stay awhile! Also, The Swine Burger was incredible!
Cocktail: Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade (Made with Wild Turkey 81 bourbon, blackberry puree, fresh lemon, cardamom & Angostura Bitters, this punch is tart and bitter with just the right amount of sweetness. Served in a mason jar & paired with a 1 ¼” block ice)
Food: The Swine Burger (short rib, brisket and chuck blend, house smoked pork belly, american cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickled red onion and cucumber)
That was the jist of our 3 night trip to Vegas. We also had a Domino's pizza delivered to our room one night and I tried In-N-Out for the first time ever (thought it was good - but man is it popular, some days the line was WAY out the door). If you have any questions for me, send them my way 🙂 happy to help with recommendations!
