Could you tell how impatient I was when I announced that we were having a baby and then less than 24 hours later we knew we were having a BOY!!!!?
I mean, I was dying to know. We had the genetic testing done so that we could find out what we were having as soon as possible! I got the results back on a Monday and then gave the envelope to my neighbor and had to wait until FRIDAY to find out.
We didn't want to throw a gender reveal party because that would have meant waiting EVEN longer to give people enough time to plan for it. In fact we weren't going to do anything at all besides open the envelope when I picked it up from the doctor, so my sweet neighbor volunteered to do a little something special for us which meant only waiting one week. Which is a length of time I could deal with!
Up to this point, I didn't truly have a preference for a boy or a girl, but I was slightly leaning towards a girl because we'd had a girl name picked out from the very beginning. I don't know why but boy names are so much harder!!! Why is that?
Sam and I have a fun formula for picking baby names: It has to be strong + a name that will sound good on them when they are 80 (i.e.: not anything too cutesie / trendy) + we have to really like it + maybe throw in a family name if it flows.
So anyway since we had a girl name picked out I was only slightly hoping that it was girl, though I really think deep down I thought it was a boy. Sam thought it was a boy. My mom was so sure it was a boy that she'd already bought boy baby clothes! My dad thought it was a girl because girls seem to be born first on our side of the family. My mother-in-law thought it was a boy and I think my father-in-law was hoping for a boy - so almost everyone was right!
We've been thinking over names, and I've had a list on my phone for awhile! Here's a little sample of my favorite (not Sam's although we have a few we do really agree on):
- Jack (our agreed favorite right now)
- Dean (we used to really like this one but then that dude from the Bachelor seriously ruined it for us, haha! Not even joking - ugh)
- Atticus (Sam doesn't like this one but I've always liked it)
- Owen (possible middle name)
- Sawyer (possible middle name)
- Wesley (not completely excited about this one but we were trying to come up with a W name)
Right now I am really liking Jack Ellis Waltman. Jack (no, it has nothing to do with This is Us) is a name somewhere on Sam's side of the family and Ellis is a name somewhere on my side of the family and I think it flows so well!
But other combos I've tried are Jack Sawyer Waltman. Jack Owen Waltman. Jack Atticus Waltman. Jack Wesley Waltman. I don't know, what is your favorite combo? I just love how old school Ellis feels. It's derived from Elijah, and it's most popular years in the US were 1899 and 1903! So that's kind of neat.
...We'll let it simmer.
The gender reveal that my neighbor threw was so cute! She threw us off with an Easter Egg hunt in the beginning since it was Good Friday! Supposedly, the eggs had either more pink or more blue peeps inside of them BUT the count ended up EVEN! So after that fun and watching us sweat as we tallied the colors with confused looks (WAIT! ARE WE HAVING TWINS AND WE DIDN'T KNOW?!?), we went inside to cut into the cutest little cake! See our expressions above 🙂
