Lately I've been hyper focused on figuring out my skin. I've been dealing with hormonal acne for a good decade now and it's been the biggest pain in my ass ever. Seriously, I went through all of middle and high school with perfect & even skin and then I guess as soon as the stress of real life kicked in my hormones really flip flopped and did a number on my face, giving me adult acne that I loathe and at this point feel that I would try anything to get rid of.
I've tried medicine (meh), juice (works but I don't only drink juice ALL of the time), the Neutrogena light mask (meh), a million different cleansers, and I'd probably rub a whale poop mask on my face if someone told me that it would get rid of acne. That's not actually a thing - I don't think. But I'm just saying...I've tried it all! So I decided it was time to visit an Aesthetician!
Meet Aqua Luna Aesthetics
Ashley owns and runs Aqua Luna Aesthetics and she is a gem! I love that she recommends products that are reasonably priced and that she truly believes in. She was also the first person to ever recommend that I get my hormone levels checked by my regular doctor which I REALLY appreciated because she is trying to help me find the root of my problem and not just cover it up. I've been going to a dermatologist for over 10 years now and they never once recommended that I check my hormones...
About Aqua Luna
"Like most people in this industry we usually develop a passion and love for this pretty early in life. I am no different. I have been a self taught makeup artist since I was 9. I can remember sitting on the bathroom sink watching my beautiful (young) mother put her makeup on before school. When she would leave for work, that’s when the artist in me could explore my talents. As I got older my monthly CosmoGirl and Seventeen subscriptions would fill my appetite for all things beauty and fashion. My friends turned to me for all there makeup and hair needs. I knew then I had a gift.
After high school I decided to spread my wings. I was fortunate enough to live in the Aloha State, Hawaii. What an amazing place to discover yourself...After moving back to the mainland I experienced the corporate world and developed other skills but my passion for this industry never died.
In 2014 I decided it was time to make a change. I packed up my life and made the 25 hour drive from Washington, DC to Texas where I attended Ogle Beauty Academy in San Antonio and received my Esthetician License. Working in my first Spa, I became Lead Esthetician after only a few months. I have trained with several Plastic Surgeons where I developed a better understanding of chemical peels, laser treatments and cosmetic procedures.
As this forever evolving industry grows, so do I. I am always searching for the latest and greatest treatments and procedures to offer my clients. I recently was honored to train with the amazing Kim Zen at DeluxeBrows, San Diego. I am now certified in Microblading and Ombre Shading after a month of online training and an intense week long of hands on training with Kim. Kim was recently ranked the 7th most influential Microblading Artist in the world."
What Ashley Recommends for problematic skin (ME) & non-problematic skin:
My Skin (Problematic Skin)
"I recommend you coming no later then 3 weeks from your last appointment, that way we can stay on top of your treatment and get your skin under control. I'd like to do the deep pore facial with a detoxing mask and then for the appointment after that I recommend we do a peel that focuses on acne.
As far as skincare products for home: I recommend using the CeraVe cleanser that has salicylic acid (this acid is a beta hydroxy acid that comes from willow bark, its an oil loving acid) which is great for acne. It also contains hyaluronic acid which help keep your skin balanced and not over dry your skin. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the body - it has a stunning capacity to attract and hold vast amounts of moisture. This is very important because as we age our skin loses the ability to preserve moisture which leads to wrinkles, dull skin and loss of plumpness.
I recommend buying the CeraVE Gel Cleanser and the Renewing Cleanser(with salicylic) and using both. Make sure you are double cleansing every time you wash your face. The first cleanse will remove all the makeup/dirt/oil and environmental impurities. The second cleanse will give you a deep pore cleanse. I don't recommend using any other type of exfoliation right now. The salicylic acid will give you enough of an exfoliation for now - if you over exfoliate it will cause more oil production. After you double cleanse, use the Clear Skin Serum from Truskin Naturals. You can find it on Amazon. Use morning and night before you moisturize. I also recommend making sure you clean your pillow case and make up brushes regularly and try to keep your cell phone away from your face. Someone with problematic skin should be coming every 2-3 weeks for their first 3-5 visits."
"Someone without problematic skin should still be focusing on anti-aging. Everyone is aging. It is easier to prevent then to correct! I see this everyday, women come in all the time and say they don't need anything and aren't worried about their skin. If you start now then the less you will have to do later! For normal skin, a facial and professional exfoliation should be done every 4 weeks. As we get older our skin renewal process slows down and a professional exfoliation will help stimulate collagen, elastin and skin cell rejuvenation. Also, aside from skincare services I do Microblading (eyebrow tattooing), waxing, lash tint, brow tint, and men's facials."
