I jumped on the meal delivery bandwagon! I mean everyone is doing it, so I wanted to see what it was all about and I was really looking forward to our life being that much easier after getting back in town. Why is it that even the most normal things seem so hard after getting back from a trip? Laundry, making the bed, grocery shopping and making dinner....no thanks! We were so spoiled in Whitefish... Poor Sam, I literally bought a rotisserie chicken that we ate off of for three days because I was lazy! And then, our Home Chef box arrived!
I chose Home Chef because they offer a lot of different options for their meals: vegetarian, meat, seafood, carb-conscious, calorie-conscious, dairy free, soy free, nut/mushroom free. Customize the meal however works best for you! I went with calorie conscious because I'm supposed to be in a swimsuit next week (but then of course I went and found those boxes of Valentine's day chocolates I bought on sale, ugh!)... Sam and I chose the Bone-In Chimichurri Pork Chops and the Classic Chicken Piccata from the menu that week (it changes every week).
I've got to say that it was so much fun cooking new things! Sam and I have been married a few years now and we have a few things that we know, we love and I cook way too often because it's just easy! But this was such a fun way to add to my cooking repertoire. In fact, Sam requested that these two recipes be added to our rotation, haha! We really like them!
Along with cooking new recipes, I tried two new ingredients for the first time: chayote and capers! LOVED the Chayote, it's a vegetable from the gourd family that has this really great sweetness, kind of like squash but better. And then I actually enjoyed the capers with the Chicken Piccata! I think my only constructive criticism for Home Chef would be that they add dessert to their deliveries, if that's even possible, because I always feel like I need to end my meals with something sweet. My sweet tooth is huge, hence ending my lunch with a box of Valentine's Day chocolates yesterday...
Everything was pre-portioned and there were instructions so it was literally the easiest way to make dinner. I'm definitely a recipe follower, unlike Sam who can whip up anything with the 3 ingredients we have in our pantry...honestly, the only way it could have been easier is if Sam had made it for me! But he was busy building that Mudroom Inspired Entry, so I turned on some tunes, poured some wine and had fun with it! And as you can see from the pictures, Zoey kept me company the entire time. She always sits right under me when I'm cooking because I'm messy and I drop things left and right!
Meals are only $9.95 a serving and you can pause, skip or cancel your account at any time! Choose from 10 recipes on their menu or have them randomly selected for you based on your preferences and receive 2-8 meals per week based on what you need! I would definitely recommend trying it, I can't wait to receive my next shipment. I did an Instagram story that documented the whole cooking process, so make sure you're following me on Instagram @amandakwaltman so you can tune in the next time we make some Home Chef 🙂
I want to know what you think about Home Chef so I'm giving you $30 toward your first order with the code AMANDA30 ! Try it out, I promise you won't be disappointed. We'll be in Key West next week but if we were here I'd be trying the Brasserie-Style Sirloin Steak and then it's a toss up between the Bahn Mi Meatball Sub, Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos, Parmesan Crusted Pork Chops or the Classic Fettuccini Alfredo. Next week's menu is so good! I'll be trying more when we get back from Key West. I'll have to save Sam from another rotisserie chicken.
Anyway, enjoy! Use my code AMANDA30 and then snap me what you're making on Insta! I want to see! <3
